The First Tree is a third-person exploration game centered around two parallel stories: a fox trying to find her missing family, and a son reconnecting with his estranged father in Alaska. Players take control of the fox on a poignant and beautiful journey that crescendos at the source of life, and perhaps result in an understanding of death. Along the way, players can uncover artifacts and stories from the son's life as he becomes intertwined in the fox’s journey towards The First Tree.
Features:
• Not a "fox simulator," but an emotional, intimate story by a one-man team with an ending you won't soon forget.
• Featuring a gorgeous, orchestral soundtrack by acclaimed artists like Message to Bears, Lowercase Noises, and Josh Kramer.
• A short story-driven game (about 2 hours long) with some light puzzle solving, platforming, and no enemies.
Please note: A fast, modern device with at least 2GB of RAM is required to enjoy The First Tree.
Developed by David Wehle, The First tree is an adventure game in which we play a mother fox in search of her 3 cubs. At the same time, a young man named Joseph tries to reconnect with his father in Alaska. In this initiatory quest, we will have to awaken memories buried in Joseph's unconscious through our actions with the mother fox. He will then realize that his dream in which he follows our fox is not trivial and that the parallel between the 2 stories will allow him to better understand his difficult relations with his family.
The First tree is a game that will delight fans of Firewatch, Last Day of June or even the fabulous What Remains of Edith Finch. Indeed, we discover a poignant and difficult story in which it will be a question of life, death and acceptance of the loss of others. Developed and voiced by one man and his companion, however, do not expect to find the quality of a AAA game or a lifespan of several hours. The game is entirely in English but it is possible to subtitle the texts in different languages. Knowing that the translations are voluntary and made by fans of the game, allow a few days to obtain a correct translation in French.
The emotion without the overbidding.
The First tree is quite basic at first glance, the controls are simple but relatively flexible and our possibilities of interaction with our fox are also very limited. We can therefore move by walking or running and jump to reach the stars. In a few very specific places, it will be possible for us to unearth a memory leading with it to an advance in the narration between Joseph and his father. It will therefore be necessary to explore and use the double jump of our fox to reach hidden places and thus discover everything that happened in the father-son relationship. There are 150 stars to find in the game, during my first game, I found about 120 which will leave me a second game allowing me to go and find the latest achievements of the game. The first level is not not fundamentally very sexy and we are quite surprised by the poverty of the settings and the possibilities offered by the game.
